UIL Region 3 Championships Comments

North Harris College, Humble

"Great course for a small number of teams but horrible for a regional meet. My team was one of the teams screwed out of state last year because we are a steady starting pack running team, so it was extremely difficult to pass."

"This meet is great when Aldine runs it because the number of teams is limited and everyone can go fast.

This meet is not good for regionals, though. There are probably 6-8 teams in contention for going to state. The team that takes third wouldn't always beat the 4th-6th schools, but they do here because the start to this meet is crucial. If your squad doesn't get out in the front pack, their pace is dictated by the pack for well over a mile. This is most of the race distance for the girls.

All in all, I feel the region III course is good for 12-16 teams, but not 24 plus individuals. The backside of the course is just too narrow for passing and the point of a regional meet should be to be able to compete late in the race, not file into the chute in an order that was predetermined in the first 600 meters."

"They run the meet extremely well. The course is very easy and the footing is good. It is certainly not challenging but it is fair."
